Our Story

PayBox has been operating in Georgia’s fintech market since 2007. The company owns the country’s first self-service payment terminal brand, currently serving up to 350,000 users daily through a network of over 8,000 payment points nationwide.

The company was founded in 2007 under the name of JSC Nova Technology, initially offering POS terminal services under the brand Payline. That same year, the first self-service payment terminal was installed in Tbilisi, marking the beginning of a new era in fast and convenient payments.

In 2008, the PayBox brand was officially launched. The company’s employees assembled the self-service terminals in-house, and the PayBox network began to expand rapidly, with the first regional offices opening in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Batumi.

By 2009, the number of PayBox terminals reached 300. In the same year, the company became the official representative, dealer, and distributor of CashCode bill acceptors in Georgia—its first significant achievement on the international market.

In 2010, the company began selling self-service payment terminals across Georgia, enabling broader access to fast and user-friendly payment solutions.

In 2012, the company launched the website Paybox.ge, bringing its services to the online space and offering customers a simpler and more flexible way to make payments digitally.

In 2013, PayBox strengthened its regional presence and began exporting its self-service payment terminals to Armenia, marking its first step toward international expansion.

In 2014, the company introduced a new and innovative terminal model called the “Jikhuri”, which combined unique design and enhanced functionality to offer customers greater comfort during the payment process.

In 2015, PayBox entered the corporate service sector, launching a project to replace traditional cash registers. By offering customized, branded terminals, the company helped businesses reduce cashier-related costs and streamline their payment services. During this period, PayBox began partnering with major banks operating in Georgia.

In 2016, the company introduced the first adapted payment terminals, designed specifically to simplify the payment process for people with disabilities.

According to a 2017 survey, PayBox held 41% of Georgia’s non-bank payments market and offered access to more than 850 services through 6,500 payment points across the country.

In 2018, the company underwent a major rebranding and changed its legal name from JSC Nova Technology to JSC OPPA.

In 2022, PayBox introduced a redesigned and modernized interface across its self-service terminals, enhancing the user experience with an updated look and improved functionality.

In 2023, several new features were added to PayBox terminals, including a user account (cabinet), SMS receipts, and a regional language button, allowing for a more personalized and convenient payment process.

Today, PayBox continues to provide fast, simple, and secure payment solutions to customers throughout Georgia. With more than 8,000 terminals and nearly 1,000 services, PayBox has been a trusted part of the country’s payment ecosystem for over 18 years.
